The product page film checklist

Where motion goes on a product page, and how to add it without slowing the page down.

The short version

Where motion goes on a product page, and how to add it without slowing the page down.

The first slot

Replace the first static image with a six to ten second loop of the product. It is the only media on the page that moves without being asked.

Silent, looping, no play button.

Silent by default

It will autoplay muted. Any words have to be in the picture, big enough for a phone.

If it needs sound to make sense, recut it.

Scale and use, fast

In the first three seconds show how big it is and what it does. Those are the two questions a photo cannot answer.

A hand, a pour, a press, a click.

One loop beats five photos

A loop can show the front, the back, the texture and the product in use. That is four images of scrolling, in one slot.

Keep three stills beside it for the careful buyer.

Keep it light

A still poster frame first, the film loads after. A few megabytes at most. A slow page loses people before they see anything.

Our own site works this way.

A loop per claim

Waterproof? Show water. Fast charging? Show the bar fill. Put a tiny loop beside each claim instead of an icon.

Three-second loops, no sound.

Then measure

Change one product page first. Compare add-to-cart for two weeks before and after. Then roll it out.

One page, one change, real numbers.

The main loop

  • Six to ten seconds, seamless loop
  • Plays muted, no play button, works with sound off
  • Shows scale and use in the first three seconds
  • Any text is large enough for a phone

Keep it fast

  • A still poster frame shows first
  • The film loads after the page, not before
  • File kept to a few megabytes
  • Vertical or square on mobile, not a tiny wide strip

Around it

  • Three stills kept for the careful buyer
  • A three-second loop beside each big claim
  • The same look as your ads, so the click feels continuous

Measure

  • Change one product page first
  • Compare add-to-cart for two weeks before and after
  • Roll out only if it moves

Why a loop

It is the only media on the page that moves without being asked. Nobody has to tap it, swipe it or choose it.

What you get

  • The main loop
  • Keep it fast
  • Around it
